Emerald Bay, located on the undeveloped West End of Catalina Island, enjoys unparalleled access to the natural gems of Catalina's singular ecosystem. Camp Emerald Bay offers a wide variety of summer opportunities for Boy Scouts all over the world. Whether you are taking part in the first year rank advancement program or putting your skills to the test in our rigorous outdoor Rugged Adventurers, Emerald Bay offers a unique camping experience for Scouts of all ages. ||Troop 70 camp coordinators will prepare a summary of important information for scouts and parents. See registration section below for key due dates and deadlines
Scouts will choose from one of several Program opportunities at Emerald Bay:
Base Camp: Open to all Scouts, Base Camp offers ~40 merit badges as well as a "Trail to First Class" Program for 1st year Scouts
Rugged SCUBA (ages 12+): A unique opportunity for Scouts 12 years and older to earn the SCUBA Merit Badge while also earning their Open Water Scuba Certification.
Rugged Explorers (ages 14+): An island adventure with kayaking, canoeing, biking, snorkeling, hiking and more
Rugged Oceanographers (ages 14+): An advanced version of Rugged SCUBA, requiring a Scout to have already earned their Open Water Certification to participate.
||~40 Merit Badge opportunities, including a large selection of Aquatics-themed merit badges, all Shooting Sports badges, and several others. Merit Badge selection will start on March.
The following is an overview of Camp Costs. See next section for Estimated transportation costs (will be firmed up at a later date).
Base Camp: $486 for Scouts, $384 for Adults
Rugged Explorers: $716 for Scouts, $767 for Adults
Rugged SCUBA: $1075 Scouts and Adults
Rugged Oceanographers: $1025 for Scouts, $1075 for Adults
* If you are participating in any of the Rugged Programs, you do not pay the Base Camp cost - only the cost for your program.
Transportation and Lodging: (costs shown are estimates only at this time, prior to obtaining negotiated group rates, and are subject to change):
Airfare: We are flying to California the day prior to camp. Estimated cost is $300-$400 per person.
Lodging: We will spend Saturday night in a hotel near the Pier. Estimated cost is $50-$100 per person. A group rate will be negotiated.
Ground Transportation: We will use Super Shuttle for transportation to/from camp to the airport. Estimated cost is $60 round trip, per person.
Scouts and adults will travel via commercial air. See above.
For those who decide to choose to travel independent of the Troop Group:
1. No Scout will be permitted to travel on their own without a parent.
2. Troop travel is "All or Nothing" - If you choose to travel independent of the Troop's official plan:
- You are responsible for your own air, hotel, and transport to/from the Ferry Pier.
- You are responsible for arriving at the Ferry Pier in time for departure Sunday AM. If you miss the Ferry, you miss camp. No refunds, no exceptions

- Rugged Explorers: $256

Jan 16th : (Flight deposit)
- Per Person $50
Feb 20th: (Second payment due for ALL campers)
- Base Camp: Balance in Full
- Rugged Explorers: $256
- Rugged Oceanographers: $205
- Rugged SCUBA: $256
May 5th: (Final payment due for ALL Rugged campers)
- Rugged Oceanographers: Balance in Full

Note: Transportation and Lodging timelines are not known at this time but initial deposit is likely to be in early 2017, will payment in full in later spring '17
