Philmont Photos, July 2012
Day 2, 7/11/2012
Assistant Scoutmaster Eric Seaberg
First trail day. Took a bus ride to six mile gate and they dropped us off. We made a pack line and then started training. We learned to go over barbed wire fences and then we all (3 crews) crowded into a red roof (outhouse) for more training. In was like clowns in a clown car. We unpiled and finished our training and finally hit the trail. We were in a small canyon and our ranger was telling us how he had been stalked several times by a mountain lion here. After 15 minutes, we came to our first sight and of course we needed a 20 minute packs off break. We looked at the t-Rex track, evidently the only one in the world and went on. We only had a two mile hike and then the ranger taught us the Philmont way of camping. We learned the Abscot scale for stool consistency and the 5 star scale for digging cat holes. Ask the boys if you need details.
